As the competition in fixed gear crits continues to stiffen, we felt that the difference between racing on a banked velodrome, and racing on a crowded course with varying flat turns was big enough to justify a purpose built frame, particularly suited to the wild and woolly environment of the modern single speed crit race.

Instead of trying to build an aerodynamic track bike, the MKI SS Crit features an oversized, round tubeset to put more emphasis on torsional stiffness and acceleration - more suited to a style off racing where hairpin turns require large decelerations followed by quick accelerations.

Crit specific geometry and a higher bottom bracket allows for better pedal clearance on tight, flat turns, and extra maneuverability in a race where agility and position is key.

We source only the highest quality 7005 Aluminum tubing from some of the best factories in the world.  To achieve the perfect balance between stiffness and comfort, and strength and weight, all our tubing is custom extruded to our exact specifications. Tubing diameters, wall thickness and butting are all designed and tested based on rider feedback after thousands of combined hours in the saddle.  7005 aluminum was developed in the aerospace industry, and is one of the highest quality aluminum alloys available. Flexshape Tube Forming Process

 Flexshape Tubing is a tube shaping process developed in-house at Low Bicycles to maximize the performance benefits of an aluminum bicycle frame in ways that are normally only possible with large-scale manufacturing techniques like hydroforming. This unique process allows us to emulate hydroforming on a small scale, which sets Low Bicycles apart from the handmade bicycle industry  Tuning and shaping our tube profiles not only creates uniquely attractive and organic shapes, but adds comfort and stiffness to the frame. This makes our bikes incredibly versatile, yielding excellent performance characteristics across a wide range of riding conditions - ideal for long distances and club riding, in addition to being extremely stiff and responsive race machines.

Not only does our smooth welding process create an attractive overall look and finish to the frame, but the smooth transitions from tube to weld reduces the amount of stress risers in the frame. Stress risers are areas where abrupt contour transitions allow pressure to build up when the frame is subject to the forces of torsion and the shock of impacts, causing premature frame fatigue and eventually failure. The reduction of stress risers combined with the beauty of the welds will result in a high level of owner satisfaction for years to come.
